Fix for Google Maps script error
I've extended the domain name GeePeeEx.COM for another 12 months, to provide a point of contact until I decide what (if anything) I'm going to do next.
I've been informed of an issue with the "Show Maps" function, which has been brought about by a change to the Google Maps API. I have a workaround for it (for now at least).
The Internet Explorer WebBrowser control that is embedded within GeePeeEx Editor, apparently works in Internet Explorer 7 mode, unless instructed otherwise!
So, for the past 7 years, I thought I'd been testing against the latest Browser version ... but hadn't :-(
This didn't matter until Google changed their API to use a function which was not present in IE7, thus breaking GeePeeEx Editor (and a good many other programs). Fortunately, the behaviour of the
WebBrowser Control can be changed via a Registry setting. Unfortunately, there is something in my Google Maps script that does not work beyond IE8, so this may only be a temporary reprieve. Also,
Google now make a point of saying that they only support IE9 and beyond, so a small banner appears in the map window. The banner can be dismissed, and the Show Map function appears to work as
